The National Police Board (NPB) published a press release this morning at CEST 6:30 am stating that the Betsson Group has received a prohibition order and a conditional fine of EUR 2.4 million in Finland for illegal gambling advertisement. This is significant news as it marks the first time ever that the National Police Board has issued a prohibition order and conditional fine against an MGA licensed operator.
The conditional fine of EUR 2.4 million is also a record high, surpassing the previous record fine of EUR 800,000. This decision has been long awaited and it seems likely that another major operator may soon face a similar, if not larger, fine.
